Calling All Poets! – You know who you are!
The 2nd People’s Poetry Service will be held on at 10:30 am Sunday, August 19, 2018. Our first Poetry Service, two years ago in August, featured a variety of voices from our congregation and the Salem community. It was a great success!
We are doing it again! You are invited!
“Poetry is not the domain of just a few.
It’s as natural and accessible as heartbeat and breath.
Writing poetry requires nothing more than a love of words
and a willingness to let your pen move across a page,
following language wherever it takes you.”
Paulann Peterson, past Oregon Poet Laureate
This year we want to suggest some themes that have provided thoughtful exploration for UUCS in our covenant groups and Sunday services during the past ten months. We are curious to see if these may be themes or just a glimpse in poems that you already wrote or will write.
The prompts are the following words: Creativity, Emergence, Blessing, Balance, Perseverance, Intention, Hope, Abundance, Courage, and Welcome.
These words or themes may show up in your writing or not. They should not be a barrier or restriction for submitting your poems.
Special Music: Native American Flute
If you would like to participate on August 19th please send us your poems. We would like to receive poems ASAP. The deadline for submission is July 27th.
Please email your submissions to:
David Jeffers firstname.lastname@example.org
Dina Triest email@example.com
Attendance at a rehearsal on the Friday before the Sunday service, August 17, is mandatory for participation. Please make a note of that date.
Thank you in advance for your contributions and voices!
